Consultation & Therapy FAQs
General & Initial Consultation
What exactly happens during an Initial Psychiatric Consultation?
Think of this as a warm, open-ended conversation with a board-certified psychiatrist. There are no "wrong" topics here—you can bring whatever is on your mind, whether that is intense stress, sleep issues, persistent mood changes, focus struggles, relationship hurdles, burnout, or just a vague feeling that something isn’t quite right.
By the end of this session, you will gain:
- A much clearer understanding of what you are experiencing.
- An initial clinical impression from an expert.
- A practical, actionable roadmap forward—which could include targeted lifestyle adjustments, recommendations for therapy, further assessment, or a medical prescription if it is clinically relevant.
Is this initial session a therapy session?
No, it is important to distinguish the two. An initial consultation is a comprehensive clinical assessment. Therapy, on the other hand, is a highly structured, ongoing collaborative process that typically begins after this initial assessment is complete so we know exactly what we are targeting.
Will I leave the first session with a definitive diagnosis?
Not necessarily. While you will receive a professional, provisional impression, some mental health profiles require more time, observational follow-up, or objective testing before a final, definitive diagnosis can be safely made. A single session opens the door to understanding; it doesn’t always resolve every question immediately, and that is a perfectly normal part of the clinical process.
How should I prepare to get the most out of my initial call?
You don't need to overthink it, but doing these four simple things helps immensely:
- Prioritize: Note down your top 2 to 3 pressing concerns before logging on.
- Gather info: Keep any past prescriptions, medical history, or relevant health reports right next to you.
- Set the stage: Find a quiet, entirely private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly.
- Be candid: The more open and honest you are about your day-to-day realities, the more tailored and effective our clinical direction will be.
Therapy Follow-Up
What is the focus of a 60-minute Therapy Follow-Up session?
This is a dedicated, confidential space to continue your long-term healing and growth. We actively pick up where your last session left off. During these 60 minutes, your practitioner will:
- Check in on your emotional and mental wellbeing since we last spoke.
- Help you reflect on any breakthroughs, challenges, or behavioral patterns that surfaced during the week.
- Deepen your therapeutic work with personalized coping strategies, frameworks, and actionable tools tailored directly to your personal goals.
I am completely new to EquaRoots. Can I book a Therapy Follow-Up directly?
No, our Therapy Follow-Up sessions are reserved strictly for existing clients who have already completed their baseline evaluation. If you are starting fresh with us, please book an Initial Psychiatric Consultation first so we can establish your clinical foundation.
Is there anything I need to submit before my follow-up session?
Yes, to ensure a seamless and deeply impactful session, please share any session homework, reflection journals, or updated reports at least 1 hour prior to your scheduled slot.

Gut–Mind Connection
I had been chasing solutions for persistent gut issues for years — supplements, diets, everything. My session with Equaroots was the turning point I didn't know I needed. The team helped me see that my gut was really responding to what was happening in my mind. Addressing the root — not just the symptom — has made all the difference.
Relationships & Regulation
I didn't realise how deeply certain patterns were affecting both my personal and professional life until Equaroots helped me see them clearly. Through therapy, I've learned practical regulation techniques that have genuinely transformed how I show up — at home and at work.
Anxiety & Holistic Care
For a long time, I'd been living with anxiety without fully acknowledging it. My doctor at Equaroots created a space where I finally felt safe to do that. Having both therapy and the right medical support together made my recovery feel complete — not piecemeal.
Grief & Trauma Support
After a traumatic experience, I was carrying grief and guilt I didn't know how to put down. My doctor at Equaroots helped me process it with such care and patience. It's the first time I've felt genuinely lighter — not just coping, but healing.
Structured Therapy · Goal-Driven Recovery
I had tried therapy before, but something always felt vague — like it could go on forever without a clear destination. Equaroots completely changed that. Working with a psychiatrist in a structured, goal-oriented format gave me a beginning, a path, and an end point to work toward. For the first time, therapy didn't feel like a leap of faith — it felt like a science. That restored my confidence more than anything else.
First-time patient
It felt really comforting sharing my concerns with my EquaRoots doctor. They equipped me with a toolkit to recognize red flags and know when to seek help in the future, along with regulation techniques I could actually use. Most importantly, they made me feel that mental health is approachable for everyone. I'd recommend a mental health check-in to anyone — and the first consultation offers are a great place to start.
